Recipient of Leadership Award for Providing Exemplary Healthcare Services to People with Developmental Disabilities
Vincent Graniero, OD, Optometrist with LensCraftersDr. Vincent Graniero, an optometrist who works as an Independent Doctor of Optometry at LensCrafters, received his bachelor's degree from St. John Fisher College and his graduate degree at Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia.
Shortly after joining LensCrafters in 1991, Dr. Graniero was asked to participate in the voluntary Vision Care for Kids program through the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) and local schools to help children obtain proper eye care. Dr. Graniero sees one to two children weekly who have failed a vision-screening test at school, and who otherwise would not receive necessary testing and proper eye care. This program ensures that children receive the care they need during this important developmental stage in life. Vision problems are the fourth most common disability in the U.S. affecting children at a critical time when visual motor and perceptual skills are developing. Problems are usually treatable and preventable when detected early thereby improving performance in significant developmental milestones.
It has been proven that 80 percent of what children learn is obtained visually. Dr. Graniero also participates in two other volunteer programs through LensCrafters called Home Town Days and One Sight, which help children and adults obtain quality eye care. He also volunteers at the vision van, which visits Rochester once a year and provides exams for school children in Monroe and the surrounding counties.
Dr. Graniero grew up in Webster and currently resides in Wayne County with his wife Ruth and their three children, and is honored to be receiving this award.
